Check the hatch opening before buying a bulky load. A third-party measurement of a 2023+ Lexus RX found 42 inches between the wheel housings, but an opening only 41 inches wide and 27 inches high. Something that fits on the floor may still be difficult to get inside.
That reference also gives 40 inches of floor depth behind the rear seats and 28.5 inches of interior height. SteadyHome identifies the measured vehicle by generation rather than an exact 2024 RX 350 trim, so check a close fit on your own car.
Lexus's 2024 brochure lists 29.6 cubic feet seats up and 46.2 cubic feet seats folded. Those figures help compare overall capacity; the opening measurements help decide whether your particular box will get inside.
2024 Lexus RX 350 trunk dimensions in inches
The table below separates the tape-measured current-generation RX dimensions from Lexus's own factory cargo-volume figures.
| Cargo measurement | Current-generation RX reference | Source status |
|---|---|---|
| Floor length, rear seats upright | 40.0 in | Third-party physical measurement |
| Width between wheel housings | 42.0 in | Third-party physical measurement |
| Floor-to-ceiling height | 28.5 in | Third-party physical measurement |
| Hatch-opening width | 41.0 in | Third-party physical measurement |
| Hatch-opening height | 27.0 in | Third-party physical measurement |
| Liftover height | 31.0 in | Third-party physical measurement |
| Cargo volume, seats upright | 29.6 cu ft | Lexus factory figure |
| Cargo volume, seats folded | 46.2 cu ft | Lexus factory figure |

The most useful detail here is the relationship between the 42-inch wheel-well width and the 41-inch opening width. It tells you immediately that “room inside” and “room to get the object in” are two different questions.
The same thing happens vertically. The measured interior height is 28.5 inches, while the hatch opening is 27 inches high. A 28-inch-tall rectangular box might have room once it is inside, but that does not mean it will pass cleanly through the opening.
That is why a rigid object should never be sized from cargo volume alone.
A 40-inch floor depth is useful, but leave margin
The measured 40-inch seats-up floor length is a good planning number for medium suitcases, folded strollers and crates.
If the item itself is 39.5 or 40 inches deep, treat it as a measuring-tape job rather than a spec-sheet job. Carpet, a cargo liner, the angle of the rear seatback and exactly where the tape starts can all erase the last half-inch.
Soft luggage can take advantage of the RX's irregular space. A square crate cannot.
What Lexus officially publishes for the 2024 RX 350
Lexus gives a clean set of vehicle dimensions and cargo-volume figures for the 2024 model.
| 2024 RX specification | Published value |
|---|---|
| Cargo volume, rear seats upright | 29.6 cu ft |
| Cargo volume, rear seats folded | 46.2 cu ft |
| Overall vehicle length | 192.5 in |
| Overall width, mirrors folded | 75.6 in |
| Overall height | 67.3 in |
| Wheelbase | 112.2 in |
Only the first two rows are cargo measurements. Generic spec pages sometimes answer “trunk width” with the vehicle's exterior width, which is why the distinction is explicit here. 75.6 inches is not the width of the RX cargo floor.
The same goes for the wheelbase. A 112.2-inch wheelbase tells you about the distance between the axles, not the usable cargo-floor length.
Car and Driver's 2024 RX 350 specification page leaves the standard linear cargo fields blank/N/A while listing the same 29.6/46.2-cu-ft volume figures. That supports keeping the tape measurements clearly attributed rather than pretending they are Lexus factory dimensions.
How long is the Lexus RX 350 with the rear seats folded?
A reliable folded-floor length is the one useful number the sources used here do not provide.
Lexus publishes the 46.2-cu-ft maximum volume, but cubic feet cannot be converted into a trustworthy folded-floor length. The third-party current-generation measurement used above does not provide a seats-folded floor length either.
If your purchase depends on that number, measure the exact RX:
- put the driver's seat in its normal driving position;
- fold the rear seatbacks;
- measure from the closed-hatch plane to the nearest front-seatback at floor level;
- repeat at the height of the mattress, box or crate;
- check whether the folded seatbacks create a step or slope.
For sleeping, take a second parked-only measurement with the front seats moved forward. Do not use that longer number as the cargo length available while driving.
How useful is 29.6 cubic feet in the real world?
The 29.6-cu-ft seats-up figure is helpful when you are comparing the RX with another luxury SUV. It tells you less when your question is “will this exact thing fit?”

Third-party loading tests help put the number into context. BabyDrive's 2024 RX350 F Sport review shows common family loads such as a compact stroller with shopping bags and combinations of larger and smaller luggage.
That kind of test is useful because bags can fill gaps that the cubic-foot figure cannot describe. But it should not be turned into a universal fit claim: stroller shapes, suitcase sizes and trim details differ.
The RX cargo area also has a relatively clean shape, which matters in practice. A theoretically larger cargo area with awkward wheel-arch intrusions can be less convenient for rectangular luggage than a slightly smaller but tidier space.
RX 350 vs. RX 350h, RX 450h+ and RX 500h
The 2024 Lexus material presents the RX 350, RX 350h, RX 450h+ and RX 500h within the same current RX family and gives 29.6/46.2 cu ft as the cargo-volume specification in its dimensions material.
That is enough for a broad brochure comparison. It is not enough for me to say every underfloor pocket, liner and battery-related contour is identical across every powertrain.
If you are ordering a fitted drawer, mobility ramp, cargo liner or other product that depends on millimeters, match it to the exact variant.
Also be careful with older RX L measurements. The RX L was a different three-row body from the previous generation. It should not be mixed into a 2024 five-passenger RX 350 fit check.
Loading a bulky item into the RX

Check the entrance before buying a crate
The measured RX reference has a 41 × 27-inch opening. A rigid box close to either limit needs a physical loading test because the upper corners are curved. Turning it may help, but interior width alone cannot establish whether that maneuver works.
Include the crate's handles, latches and feet in your measurements. Once it is inside, check that the hatch closes without contacting it.
Loading height matters too
The reported by a third party 31-inch liftover height describes how high you must raise a load over the sill. For a heavy item, consider that lifting step as well as whether it fits on the floor.
For long luggage or a sleeping platform, measure the folded-seat configuration directly. The published 46.2 cubic feet does not establish a continuous floor length. Our cargo measurement method explains the checks; Honda CR-V cargo dimensions offers another vehicle reference.
