The 2024 and 2025 Equinox need different cargo measurements. Chevrolet redesigned the gasoline model for 2025, so the older body's dimensions are no longer a reliable fit guide.

For a 2018–2024 Equinox, a third-party physical measurement gives about 39.3 inches of floor depth behind the rear seats. For the 2025–2026 model, Chevrolet publishes 29.8 cubic feet behind the rear seat and 63.5 cubic feet with it folded. Those newer capacity figures are useful for comparison, but Chevrolet's material checked here doesn't supply a complete set of cargo measurements in inches.

If you are ordering a crate or fitted accessory for the newer Equinox, ask for a measurement of that body before relying on the older 39.3-inch figure.

What Equinox cargo dimensions are actually verified?

This is the table that matters before buying a crate, stroller, scooter or sleeping platform.

Verified and unverified Chevrolet Equinox cargo measurements

The blank cells are intentional. A missing measurement is not an invitation to borrow one from an older generation or reverse-engineer it from cubic feet.

If your cargo is soft — duffels, grocery bags, coats — volume tells you quite a lot. If it is rigid — a dog crate, wheelchair, appliance or drawer box — you need the actual opening and floor dimensions.

Why 29.8 cubic feet cannot tell you the trunk length

Cargo volume is a three-dimensional measurement of an irregular space. You cannot take 29.8 cu ft and reliably turn it into length × width × height because the Equinox cargo area is not a rectangular box.

A vehicle can have useful pockets, underfloor storage and wide upper sections that add volume without making the main floor longer. The opposite can happen too: a long floor can exist inside a cargo area with a modest overall cubic-foot rating.

So if a page gives you a precise current-generation Equinox cargo length but cannot show where that number came from, check the model year and source before using it.

2025–2026 Chevy Equinox: what changed?

Chevrolet redesigned the Equinox for 2025. GM's launch information lists 29.8 cu ft behind the rear seat and 63.5 cu ft with the rear seat folded. The current Chevrolet page continues to advertise 63.5 cu ft maximum, a 60/40-split rear bench and hidden underfloor storage.

The redesign matters because a lot of search results still mix the third-generation 2018–2024 vehicle with the newer 2025–2026 model.

If you are shopping for a 2025 or 2026, ignore any inch measurement that does not clearly identify the redesigned body.

The underfloor space is genuinely useful

The Equinox's official 29.8-cu-ft seats-up number does not tell the whole story about day-to-day usability. Edmunds' real-world cargo test of the redesigned gasoline Equinox found the space more useful than the headline volume suggested and called attention to the storage beneath the removable cargo floor.

That makes a difference with groceries, charging cables, emergency gear and smaller bags because those items do not have to occupy the main deck.

It still does not make a 42-inch box fit if the floor or opening is smaller than 42 inches. Hidden storage improves organization; it does not replace linear measurements.

Do not mix the gas Equinox with the Equinox EV

The names are similar, but the vehicles are not. The Equinox EV has a different body and packaging, so its cargo dimensions should not be used for the gasoline Equinox.

This matters more than it sounds because dealer pages and generic spec sites often surface both vehicles for the same search.

2024 Chevy Equinox: the useful 39.3-inch measurement

The 2024 model belongs to the older third generation. SteadyHome says it physically measured a vehicle from that 2018–2024 generation and recorded 39.3 inches of cargo-floor depth behind the upright rear seats, measured from the inner face of the rear lip to the rear seatback.

That gives 2024 owners something much more useful than a generic volume number when checking stroller or box depth.

Treat 39.3 inches as a generation reference, not a guaranteed cut dimension for every trim. If the item is 39 inches long and rigid, measure the exact vehicle before buying it. A fraction of an inch disappears quickly once you account for carpet, trim, a liner or a slightly different endpoint.

39.3 inches belongs with the 2018–2024 body. It should not be carried into a 2025 or 2026 article.

Chevy Equinox cargo space in cubic feet

For the current gasoline Equinox, Chevrolet's useful factory numbers are easy to remember.

Current Equinox cargo figure Value
Behind rear seat 29.8 cu ft
Rear seat folded 63.5 cu ft
Rear seat 60/40 split-folding
Extra storage Hidden underfloor compartment

Chevrolet Equinox official cargo-volume figures

For a family road trip, the 29.8-cu-ft figure is a decent broad comparison with rival compact SUVs. For something rigid, the opening, wheel-well width and floor depth matter more than the cubic-foot number.

That is why the Equinox article needs to be a little more cautious than the RAV4 or Rogue articles: Chevrolet simply does not give us the same set of current linear measurements in the material checked.

How long is the Equinox with the rear seats folded?

For the 2025–2026 gasoline Equinox, there is no verified folded-floor length in the factory sources used here.

If you need that number for a mattress, bicycle or long box, it takes only a few minutes to get a measurement that is more useful than a copied web figure:

  1. Put the driver seat in the position you actually use.
  2. Fold the second row.
  3. Set the cargo floor in the position you plan to use.
  4. Measure from the inside plane of the closed hatch to the nearest front-seat obstruction at floor level.
  5. Repeat at the height of your cargo.

That last measurement matters. A low box can fit under a sloping seatback where a tall box cannot.

For sleeping, you can take a second measurement with the front seats moved forward while parked. Just do not confuse that with the cargo length available while driving.

Before ordering cargo equipment

Ask the seller for these measurements

For a 2025–2026 Equinox, ask for floor depth with the seats upright, width between the wheel housings, and hatch-opening width and height. A photo of the tape endpoints is more useful than an unlabeled number.

For a sleeping platform, add the folded-seat length with the front seats in their intended positions. For a tall crate, ask for depth at the crate's full height: the liftgate can reduce clearance above the floor.

Pack around the stroller

Put the folded stroller on the main deck first. Check that the hatch clears its handle and wheels, then arrange the bags around it. Smaller items can use the underfloor compartment if they fit, leaving the main deck available for larger cases.
