The 2026 Buick Enclave comes in Preferred, Sport Touring and Avenir trims. Preferred is the sensible starting point if you want the Enclave's core cabin equipment. Sport Touring, usually shortened to ST, is mainly the appearance choice. Avenir deserves attention when its seat, suspension and rear-seat conveniences are features you will use regularly.

The useful question is not simply which Enclave is the most expensive. It is whether your extra spending changes the functions you want, the look you prefer, or both. Someone who likes ST's design may reasonably choose it without wanting Avenir's larger comfort bundle.

This comparison covers 2026 U.S. gasoline Enclaves, with manufacturer information checked October 20, 2026. Buick has a separate 2027 lineup; do not carry these prices and equipment allocations into that model year. The advice is an editorial interpretation of published specifications, not a physical vehicle test.

2026 Enclave trim comparison and starting prices

Three-panel comparison showing 2026 Enclave Preferred as the equipment baseline, Sport Touring for design and Avenir for added comfort

SUVLook editorial comparison graphic based on Buick's 2026 U.S. trim descriptions.

Buick's 2026 Enclave overview identifies the three trims and their front-wheel-drive starting MSRPs before destination. The 2026 configurator displays totals that include destination. Both can be correct; use the same price basis when comparing them.

Trim FWD starting MSRP before destination With the published destination charge Main reason to consider it
Preferred $46,400 $48,395 Start with the core comfort and technology equipment
Sport Touring $49,900 $51,895 Choose the ST exterior and interior treatment
Avenir $60,000 $61,995 Get the broader comfort and convenience specification

The third column adds Buick's separately published $1,995 destination freight charge. The amount is listed for all three 2026 Enclave trims on Buick's destination page. Taxes, title, license, dealer fees, options and accessories are outside these figures. They are not dealer offers or out-the-door prices.

The calculated starting-price step is $3,500 from Preferred to ST and $10,100 from ST to Avenir. That arithmetic compares the base FWD figures above, not two stocked vehicles with different options. An AWD quote needs its own like-for-like comparison.

Buick's named Preferred, Sport Touring and Avenir pages identify these equipment allocations. Speaker count does not establish a sound-quality ranking; listen for yourself before assigning value to the upgrade.

Preferred: check the baseline before paying to move up

Preferred already includes much of the equipment that attracts buyers to this Enclave. Buick's Preferred highlights list heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, powered front-seat adjustment, surround-view cameras and adaptive cruise control. The display and power liftgate are part of that baseline too.

This makes Preferred worth examining before you start adding the prices of features you assume it lacks. Build a short list of your must-haves, then check them against the actual vehicle. If it already meets the list, the reason to choose another trim should be specific enough to name.

For instance, a household may care much more about the passenger's seat adjustment than about the exterior grille. Have that passenger adjust the seat, try the controls and check the view out. Do not buy a higher grade to solve a comfort question you have not yet tested in the starting grade.

The same applies to parking assistance. Use the available camera views in a stationary demonstration and see whether they help with the difficult parts of your normal parking routine. A feature's presence is a specification; how useful you find its presentation is something to evaluate yourself.

Preferred is our starting recommendation for someone who wants the Enclave's core amenities and is still deciding which upgrades matter. That is a value judgment about the equipment and price relationship. It is not a claim that every Preferred in inventory is cheaper than every ST after dealer-specific pricing and options.

Preferred versus Sport Touring: decide how much the design matters

ST changes the presentation of the vehicle. Buick identifies its dark grille and exterior accents, specific wheel finish, embroidered seat-headrest logos and flat-bottom steering wheel in the 2026 Sport Touring description. Those distinctions should be evaluated as design choices rather than treated as an automatic performance upgrade.

Look at Preferred and ST in the same light. Inspect the grille, wheel finish, cabin colors and steering wheel rather than comparing two differently edited online photographs. A detail you barely notice on a screen may be the reason you prefer the actual ST; another may matter less in person.

There is nothing wrong with spending more for a vehicle you prefer looking at and sitting in. The important part is recognizing what the extra money buys. If the ST look is the reason, say so plainly instead of assuming its name establishes a stronger engine or a sportier measured driving result.

Buick's 2026 powertrain configurator lists the same engine and transmission family across these grades. Engine naming does not remove every possible configuration difference, but it does prevent treating a move to ST as an undocumented engine step.

Our preference would be to drive Preferred and ST before choosing between them, keeping the route and passenger load similar. Note your own reactions to visibility, seating and road surfaces. We have not performed that test, so there is no claimed ride or noise advantage here.

Avenir: the comfort equipment has to earn its place

Avenir makes the largest jump in the starting-price table. Its manufacturer highlights identify front-seat massage, a panoramic roof, added rear-seat convenience functions and continuous damping control. Buick also distinguishes its audio specification and cabin finish from the lower grades.

The strongest case for Avenir is a group of features your household genuinely wants. Someone who spends long periods in the front seats, changes the rear-row arrangement often and values the roof may find the bundle more persuasive than someone interested in only one of those items.

Make the expensive features the focus of your demonstration. Try the massage controls, operate the rear seats using the prescribed procedure and sit beneath the actual roof configuration. An upgrade that is difficult to use or irrelevant to your seating position will not become useful because it appears on the highest trim.

Continuous damping control is also a reason for a careful comparison drive, not a promise this guide can translate into an exact comfort improvement. Choose a route with surfaces you encounter at home. Compare the vehicles rather than assuming the word premium settles your preference.

Ask which equipment is standard on Avenir and which is still optional. A top trim can contain both, and a general description of available features does not identify the specification of the particular vehicle you are buying. Keep the window sticker beside your shortlist.

Which comfort differences should you actually test?

Checklist contrasting a styling preference with front-seat comfort, rear-seat operation and roof use in the Enclave trim decision

SUVLook decision checklist. The questions turn the trim differences into a useful showroom comparison; they do not report test results.

Use the same seating position in each candidate. Adjust the seat for driving, place your hands naturally on the wheel and check the support under your legs. Then see whether you can reach the settings without shifting out of that position.

If two people will share the vehicle, have both repeat the comparison. The highest grade's feature list does not establish that its seat shape will suit both drivers. Spend enough time in each seat for an awkward pressure point or control reach to become apparent.

Bring normal passengers if possible. Front-seat equipment can dominate a showroom conversation even when rear-seat access is the issue that will decide the purchase. Let passengers climb in and sit with the row ahead adjusted for its usual occupant.

Keep observations separate from assumptions. You can record that one seat felt more comfortable to you on that visit. You cannot turn that reaction into a universal durability, medical or long-distance comfort claim. A good decision only needs honest observations about the people who will use the vehicle.

For a household that only wants the ST finish, this exercise may confirm that ST is enough. For another, the repeated use of Avenir's convenience features may make the higher quote easier to justify. The answer depends on the jobs the equipment performs for you.

Seat count and access: do not assume Avenir adds a position

Buick lists the 2026 Enclave as seating up to seven. Moving to Avenir is not a route to an eighth seat. If that extra position is a requirement, settle it before comparing upholstery and wheel finishes.

Try third-row access with the people and objects that will normally be aboard. Leave the driver's seat adjusted, occupy the second row and see how much movement is needed for entry. An empty-cabin demonstration can make access look easier than it will be on a family trip.

Follow the vehicle and child-restraint instructions when evaluating access with a restraint installed. A moving or folding seat function does not establish that it can be used in every occupied or restraint-fitted condition. Get the relevant procedure demonstrated rather than trying to infer it from a video.

Also decide which passengers will use the third row. Bring them if practical and let them check foot space, knee position and the ability to get out. Seven seat belts are a capacity specification, not proof that every combination of adult passengers and child restraints works comfortably.

If an eight-seat layout is essential, the 2026 Traverse trim guide explains its available LT bench configuration. Read the scope and actual equipment in that guide rather than assuming the three vehicles share a seating arrangement because they are similar-sized SUVs.

Check the rear-seat functions as a complete loading task

Some upgrades become valuable only when you use them in context. A button-operated seat may look convenient while the luggage area is empty, but your normal task may involve bags, an uneven parking space and a person waiting to get aboard.

Have the seller explain the permitted seat-folding sequence. Then work through it with the area clear. Find the controls from the position where you will stand, check how you confirm the seats are secure again, and establish what to do if something obstructs movement.

Think about how often you will make that change. A family that alternates between school runs and carrying bulky equipment may use the function repeatedly. A household that leaves every seat in the same position may place more value on a different feature.

Powered folding does not answer a close-fit cargo question. Measure the object and the usable vehicle opening and floor, with the relevant seats in their travel positions. A published volume cannot tell you whether a rigid crate clears the hatch or fits between the wheel housings.

Our three-row SUV guide offers another way to revisit the broader shortlist if the packaging fails your test. Do that before accepting a higher Enclave trim as the solution to a space requirement it does not change.

Is Super Cruise standard on the Enclave Avenir?

Do not assume so. Buick describes Super Cruise as available on its 2026 Avenir page. The top trim's name is therefore insufficient evidence that a particular vehicle includes it. Check the installed factory package, hardware and applicable service terms.

This distinction matters if hands-free driver assistance is a must-have. Verify it before spending time comparing colors, and request the window sticker for each candidate. A photograph of a steering wheel or a broad model-page headline is not a substitute for the actual equipment record.

Ask the seller to explain the compatible-road conditions and how driver attention is monitored. The driver remains responsible for operating the vehicle. No trim purchase makes the vehicle autonomous, and a demonstration should follow the manufacturer's permitted use.

Then look at your own trips. A feature designed for compatible-road travel may be important for one commute and seldom usable on another. Make that comparison using current manufacturer road-compatibility information rather than an assumption that every highway or local road qualifies.

For an included service period, clarify when it begins and what happens afterward. This is especially useful with remaining prior-model-year stock or a used vehicle. Hardware presence and active service are separate questions, and neither should be inferred from Avenir badging.

FWD, AWD and the price on the window sticker

The opening table compares FWD starting prices. Buick lists available AWD in the 2026 Preferred specifications. If AWD is on your requirement list, compare the actual AWD configurations rather than reading the FWD table as their final price.

Request a quote with the drivetrain, trim, factory options and destination treatment visible. The same model name can appear beside several different totals because the vehicles are not configured alike. A larger discount does not necessarily offset equipment you did not intend to buy.

One useful exercise is to compare an equipped Preferred with the ST you like, then compare the ST with Avenir. Write the features gained at each step beside the price difference. Cross out features that do not change your day-to-day use or your preference for the vehicle.

Keep that exercise tied to installed equipment. An option available somewhere in the range is not automatically on the lower-grade example you found. Equally, do not charge yourself for an upgrade twice if it is already included in the package or sticker total.

Dealer accessories and transaction charges should be identified separately. Ask for an itemized vehicle quote so you can understand what is being compared. This guide does not determine whether a finance offer is suitable; it helps you keep the vehicle decision visible during the transaction discussion.

A practical way to decide whether the upgrade is worth it

Enclave starting-price steps showing a 3500 dollar increase from Preferred to ST and a 10100 dollar increase from ST to Avenir before options

Calculated differences between Buick's published 2026 FWD starting MSRPs. Dealer pricing, options and taxes are outside this comparison.

Pick the lowest configuration that meets your non-negotiable needs. That becomes the reference vehicle, not necessarily the cheapest Enclave advertised anywhere. A configuration that lacks required equipment cannot serve as a meaningful baseline for your purchase.

Next, separate upgrades into two groups: features you have tried and prefer, and features that merely sound attractive. Arrange a demonstration for the second group. This avoids treating every additional feature as equally valuable just because it increases the total count.

For ST, the question may be straightforward: do you prefer the styling enough to accept the actual quote difference? For Avenir, identify the comfort and convenience features you would miss on the alternative. You do not need to invent a resale-value prediction to explain that preference.

Ask what would make you choose differently. Perhaps Preferred meets every practical requirement, but the ST interior is the one you want to live with. Or perhaps Avenir's seat and loading functions prove more useful than expected. Writing down that reason helps prevent the decision from changing with each new sales presentation.

If none of the upgrades survives this exercise, return to Preferred. If several do, compare their actual availability and total price on the finalists. The aim is a configuration you can explain, not a universal verdict that the most expensive trim is always better.

Frequently asked questions

What does ST mean on the 2026 Buick Enclave?

Sport Touring. It is Buick's design-focused trim in this lineup. Do not use the name alone to infer an engine change or a measured performance advantage.

Is Avenir the most expensive Enclave trim here?

Yes, in the published 2026 FWD starting-price comparison. A particular lower trim with options still needs an individual quote; the table is not a statement about every stocked vehicle.

Does Preferred already have heated front seats?

Buick lists them in its 2026 Preferred highlights. Check the correct model year and actual vehicle rather than carrying an older Preferred specification into this comparison.

Should I use these figures for a 2027 Enclave?

No. Use the 2027 manufacturer's specifications and price basis. This guide deliberately keeps the verified 2026 equipment and pricing together.
