A box that is 42 inches wide looks like an easy fit when Nissan lists 43 inches of cargo width. The catch: 43 inches is the maximum width, not a confirmed measurement between the wheel wells.
For the current Rogue, Nissan Canada lists 36.8 inches behind the rear seats, 72 inches with them folded, 43 inches maximum width and 34.2 inches maximum height. A third-party physical measurement found a different seats-up floor depth. Before buying a rigid crate or cutting a storage platform, measure your vehicle with the seats and cargo floor in the positions you'll use.
Nissan Rogue cargo dimensions in inches
For the current body style, Nissan's published linear dimensions are refreshingly straightforward.
| Measurement | Current Rogue figure | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Length behind rear seats | 36.8 in | Strollers, suitcases, boxes with the second row in use |
| Length with rear seats folded | 72.0 in | Longer cargo, bikes, camping gear |
| Maximum cargo width | 43.0 in | General width reference; not a wheel-well measurement |
| Maximum cargo height | 34.2 in | Tall cargo inside the bay |

The important word in that table is maximum. A cargo bay is not a rectangular box. Plastic trim, wheel housings, the angle of the rear seatbacks and the shape of the liftgate all steal space in different places.
For a rigid 42-inch-wide item, the 43-inch brochure figure is not enough by itself. Measure the narrowest point along the exact section of floor the item will occupy. Soft bags, blankets and duffels can make better use of the wider parts of the bay.
The 36.8-inch factory figure vs. a 39.2-inch tape measurement
This is a useful example of why two measurements can both be legitimate and still disagree.
Nissan publishes 36.8 inches behind the upright rear seats. SteadyHome says it physically measured a 2021+ Rogue and got 39.2 inches from the inside face of a 1.75-inch rear sill lip.
Averaging those numbers would hide the real issue. The endpoints are different, and the Rogue's cargo floor can also be configured differently with the available Divide-N-Hide system. For general comparison, use Nissan's published figure. For an object that is within an inch or two of the limit, measure your own Rogue from the same points the object will actually touch.
That is especially true for crates, mobility devices and storage systems. A soft suitcase can give you a little grace; a rigid frame cannot.
Is the Rogue really 43 inches wide between the wheel wells?
Not from the Nissan source used here. Nissan calls 43.0 inches the maximum cargo width. That is not the same wording as “between wheel housings.”
This is one of the most common mistakes in cargo-dimension articles: a maximum width gets repeated until it becomes a wheel-well width. Do not use 43 inches as a cut dimension for a platform or drawer without checking the vehicle.
How long is a Nissan Rogue with the seats down?
Nissan publishes 72 inches of maximum cargo length with the second row folded. In plain English, that gives you about six feet of floor-level length to work with.
It sounds like a simple number until you try to sleep in the car or slide in a tall box. Front-seat position changes the usable space at the forward end, and a tall object can meet the sloping front seatback or liftgate before a low object of the same length does.
For a sleeping setup, measure with the driver's seat where you can realistically leave it overnight. For transport, keep the driver seat in its normal driving position. Those are two different measurements and should stay that way.
For narrow cargo such as skis or lumber, a diagonal path can buy extra room. A wide mattress cannot use that trick nearly as well.
How much cargo space does the Rogue have?
Nissan's current U.S. material shows two nearby seats-up figures depending on how the configuration is described: 36.5 cubic feet in current trim specifications and 36.3 cubic feet on the cargo-feature page for the available Divide-N-Hide setup. Maximum cargo volume with the second row folded is 74.1 cubic feet.
| Current Rogue cargo figure | Published value |
|---|---|
| Seats up, trim-spec listing | 36.5 cu ft |
| Seats up, Divide-N-Hide feature context | 36.3 cu ft |
| Maximum, second row folded | 74.1 cu ft |

The 36.3-versus-36.5 difference is too small to drive a buying decision. It is a reminder to keep the configuration attached to the number instead of treating every Rogue cargo figure as interchangeable.
The available Divide-N-Hide system is more useful in daily life than the tiny numerical difference. Nissan says it can be arranged in six configurations, which can help separate groceries, hide smaller items or change how the floor is used.
Which Rogue years use these dimensions?
The current Rogue generation started for 2021. Nissan Canada publishes the same four headline linear figures in the 2021, 2022, 2023, 2025 and 2026 material we checked: 36.8 inches seats up, 72.0 inches seats folded, 43.0 inches maximum width and 34.2 inches maximum height. A 2024 third-party specification page also reports the same fields.
| Model year | Seats up | Seats folded | Max width | Max height |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 36.8 in | 72.0 in | 43.0 in | 34.2 in |
| 2022 | 36.8 in | 72.0 in | 43.0 in | 34.2 in |
| 2023 | 36.8 in | 72.0 in | 43.0 in | 34.2 in |
| 2024 | 36.8 in | 72.0 in | 43.0 in | 34.2 in |
| 2025 | 36.8 in | 72.0 in | 43.0 in | 34.2 in |
| 2026 | 36.8 in | 72.0 in | 43.0 in | 34.2 in |
That consistency does not mean every trim has identical usable volume. Moonroof equipment, cargo-floor position and how a manufacturer calculates volume can change the cubic-foot figure without changing these headline length/width/height numbers.
Three fit checks worth making

A 39-inch load is a test-fit job
A rigid load around 39 inches deep falls between Nissan's 36.8-inch reference and SteadyHome's 39.2-inch physical measurement. Neither number settles the purchase. Bring the item, or a cardboard outline of its full side profile, and check it with the hatch closed.
Sleeping length versus driving length
A nominal 38 × 75-inch twin is three inches longer than the published 72-inch maximum. Flexible foam may bend in a parked setup, but a rigid 75-inch platform needs its own measurement. Set the front seats for the intended use before measuring.
For stroller shopping, load the folded stroller first and check the hatch at the height of its wheels and handle. Then assess the room left for luggage. Compare another option in our Honda CR-V cargo dimensions article.
How to measure a Rogue for rigid cargo
When the object is close to the published limit, measure the vehicle at the same points the object will actually touch. Start with the hatch opening at its narrowest width and height, then measure the floor between the wheel housings, the usable floor length with the rear seat in the position you plan to use, and the height available where the liftgate begins to slope inward.
For a box, crate or drawer system, write down all three dimensions and allow a little clearance for trim, hinges and loading angle. A rigid item can fail to fit even when its volume is much smaller than the Rogue's published cubic-foot capacity. That is why SUVLook keeps maximum width, cargo volume and real cut dimensions as separate fields instead of treating them as interchangeable.
